Quick response from the Guyana Fire Service has averted what could have been millions in losses at the Vivaanta Ayurvedic Spa and Hair Salon. A source from the Guyana Fire Service told Guyana Standard today the fire started in the laundry room of the business.

The source said that around 10:45 pm on Sunday, January 8, 2023, security personnel were alarmed by the scent of smoke which eventually took over the building. As such, the fire service was immediately notified. The source said that fire was quickly contained.

When asked about the cause of the late night fire, the source said that from all indications, it seemed to have been an electrical issue in the building. The source said that the building possessed the necessary fire safety mechanisms.

Meanwhile, the company on Monday morning expressed its gratitude to the fire service in a statement.

Director of Spa, Karan Mehra, said he was grateful that diligent work from firefighters swiftly contained the blaze which caused no major damages to the building. He noted that while there is some amount of smoke damage, business will resume as usual today.

The Director also thanked public spirited citizens for their assistance in averting what could have been a major loss to their business and the livelihood of staff.

“We say a very big thank you to the Guyana fire service, police and the community for their swift response and assistance in containing the fire. We also thank everyone who was supportive and reached out to us during the incident,” Mehra said.
