The body of 51-year-old Vendanand Khemraj, a driver and resident of Ogle, East Coast Demerara, was discovered face down in a canal near his home on Well Street.

Police were notified at around 20:00hrs on Wednesday, and officers went to the scene where they discovered the body. Khemraj’s wife, Pamela Khemraj, confirmed his identity. The body was removed from the canal, and a thorough inspection was conducted to determine if there were any visible signs of violence. However, none were found.

Police questioned Khemraj’s wife, daughter, relatives, and others at the scene. According to his sister, the last time she saw him was around 18:20hrs on Wednesday. Family members reported that Khemraj was an alcoholic and a diabetic.

Emergency Medical Technicians from the Georgetown Public Hospital arrived at the scene to examine the body. Dr. Etwaroo pronounced Khemraj dead, and his body was transported to Sandy’s Funeral Home where it awaits a post-mortem examination.
