Police authorities have launched an investigation into a tragic accident that occurred last Saturday, around 19:30hrs on the Mon Repos Public Road, East Coast Demerara.

The incident involved motor car PAD 7001, owned and driven by a 41-year-old female resident of Enmore, ECD, and a 57-year-old pedestrian identified as Ralph De’Castro, a Mon Repos resident.

According to the driver’s account, she allegedly noticed a man suddenly walking from the north side to the south side of the road, directly into the path of her vehicle. In an attempt to avoid a collision, she applied the brakes, but unfortunately, the left side front of her vehicle collided with the 57-year-old. The impact caused the pedestrian to be thrown onto the road’s surface, resulting in injuries.

Promptly responding to the incident, concerned members of the public assisted in removing the unconscious pedestrian from the road. They immediately arranged for his transport to Georgetown Public Hospital, where he was pronouced dead on arrival.
