The Guyana Police Force earlier today confirmed the death of 84-year-old Buxton, East Coast Demerara resident, Elanie Williams, who was reportedly killed by a reversing truck in her community around noon on Tuesday.

Police say that the vehicle, bearing registration number GYY 7002, is owned by Cevons Waste Management Inc, but was being driven by Timothy Franklin Baynes, a 32-year-old resident of Haslington, East Coast Demerara.

Preliminary inquiries revealed that the lorry driver was in the process of reversing from south to north on Buxton Sideline Dam when” he experienced a sensation as if something was underneath the vehicle”.

Upon checking, he discovered the woman lying motionless behind the truck. Police officers were summoned to the scene, and the injured pedestrian was swiftly taken to the Buxton Health Center. Unfortunately, despite the immediate medical attention provided, she succumbed.

The body was later transferred to Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, where a post-mortem examination is scheduled.

Following the incident, enraged individuals in the vicinity assaulted the lorry driver. As a result, he is currently receiving treatment at the Georgetown Public Hospital under the supervision of the police.
