Police are investigating a shooting incident that left 27-year-old Kerol Atthon, a miner of Vigilance South, East Coast Demerara (ECD), hospitalised with a gunshot injury to his left thigh.

The incident occurred yesterday (Tuesday) about 16:40hrs at Sussex Street, Albouystown, by two identifiable males, one armed with a gun.

Enquiries disclosed that on the date and time mentioned, the victim, his wife, and his one-year-old son went to a photo studio at Sussex Street, Albouystown, to do a photo shoot for his son’s birthday.

Upon arrival, the victim parked, then left on foot to purchase some beverages for his family, walking in a southern direction along Sussex Street.

Upon returning, the 27-year-old man was approached by the two suspects when the one who was armed discharged a round in the victim’s direction, causing him to receive injuries to his left thigh.

The two suspects then made good their escape South into Albouystown.

The victim was taken to the Woodlands Hospital by public-spirited citizens, where he received medical attention. He was later transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he is a patient in stable condition.

Further investigations are ongoing.
