On Sunday at about 09:30hrs, ranks from Mahaica Police Station were on an anti-crime patrol in the vicinity of Helena 1, Public Road Mahaica, East Coast Demerara, when they observed a white motor canter bearing registration # GYY 8519 which was driven at a fast rate heading west.

Police stopped the vehicle, which had three occupants: the male driver, a woman and a toddler.

The ranks asked the driver to produce his documents, which he failed to do. He however produced a firearm and handed over a licence for same to the police. He was escorted to the Mahaica Police Station where it was observed that the vehicle had hollow blocks, sand and a wheel barrow in the back of the tray.

A search was conducted under the sand and it unearthed two bulky brown salt bags and two bulky transparent parcels of cannabis. The bags were also rammed with parcels of the cannabis

They were told of the allegation, cautioned and arrested. The narcotics was weighed in their presence which amounted to 54.790 kilograms. The firearm was lodged. Further enquiries are in progress.
