A tragic accident occurred at about 02:40hrs on Monday at Hydronie, East Bank Essequibo (EBE), resulting in the death of a pedal cyclist. The incident involved a motorcar with license plate number PAD 3432, owned and driven by 21-year-old David Simon Isaacs of lot 486 Peter Street, Parika, and 45-year-old cyclist Lloyd Garraway, who resided at Lot 1801 Parika.

According to the police investigation, the motorcar, travelling at a high rate of speed, was heading south along the western driving lane of the eastern carriageway. At that moment, Lloyd Garraway rode across the road from the western carriageway onto the eastern carriageway, leading to a collision with the right-side front of the motorcar. The impact caused the cyclist to fall onto the road, sustaining severe injuries. He was immediately rendered unconscious and transported in the motorcar to the Leonora Cottage Hospital.

Upon arrival at the hospital, medical personnel examined Lloyd Garraway, who regained consciousness. However, due to the extent of his injuries, he was admitted to the institution for further care. Unfortunately, the following day, at approximately 09:50hrs, Garraway succumbed to his injuries while undergoing medical treatment. His body has since been taken to Ezekiel Funeral Home for storage, awaiting a post-mortem examination.

The driver of the motorcar, David Simon Isaacs, underwent a breath analysis test, which indicated a blood alcohol level of 0% micrograms. The police have served him with a notice of intended prosecution. The investigation into the accident is currently ongoing.
