Servicemen killed in helicopter crash died from burns, multiple injuries – PM

Yesterday, between 10:00 hrs and 11:45 hrs, Government pathologist Dr. Nehaul Singh performed Post Mortem Examinations on the bodies of the five servicemen who lost their lives in a helicopter crash last Wednesday.

The PME was witnessed by a Detective Inspector and the cause of death are as follows:

1. Colonel Michael Shahoud: identified by Karen Dos Ramos-Thomas (Cousin) and Peter Dos Ramos (Cousin). Cause of Death: Multiple injuries.

2. Sergeant Jason Khan: Identified by Dianne Benjamin-Khan (Wife) and Jennise Khan (Sister), COD: Multiple injuries.

3. Lieutenant Colonel, Michael Charles: identified by Errol Charles (Brother) and Bhogmatie Doodnauth (Sister) whose body was burnt but was identified through his name tag on part of his uniform that was intact. Cause of Death: Burns.

4. Retired Brigadier Gary Beaton: identified by Mark Beaton (Brother) and Clifton Westford (Brother-in-Law) through upper front dentures. Cause of Death: Burns.

5. Lieutenant Colonel Sean Welcome: identified by James Tappin (Brother) and Samantha Welcome-Cameron (Sister) COD: Burns.

DNA samples were taken from the burnt victims and their relatives. Their bodies were thereafter handed over to the relatives for burial.

In a recent development, Sergeant Khan was promoted posthumously to Warrant Officer Class Two.
