A Corentyne, Berbice man who has been on the run from the police in Guyana since April 2023, was earlier today taken into custody by police in Regional Division Six after he was deported from Suriname by authorities in that country.

Sasenarine Sankar, 47, called ‘Barber’ and ‘Wire’ of Lot 2 E Number 69 Village, Corentyne, Berbice, who was wanted for attempted murder was reportedly captured at a tyre shop in Suriname.

Sankar is accused of committing the act on a 35-year-old woman with whom he shared a common-law relationship. The incident occurred at Number 55 Village, Corentyne, Berbice on April 5, 2023.

The man allegedly entered the victim’s home while she was asleep and chopped her on the left hand, side, foot, and index finger.

Sankar, after committing the act, illegally fled to Suriname.

He remains in custody pending charges.
