President Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali has announced that by the end of 2025, no public sector employee in Guyana will earn less than $100,000 per month. He made this statement during his address at the Special Sitting of the National Assembly held at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre, Liliendaal.

Dr. Ali emphasized that this initiative will increase disposable income for these workers by more than $1 billion, highlighting the government’s commitment to building prosperity, reducing disparity, and creating equity in the system through real action, work, and policies.

The government’s plan to raise public sector salaries builds on various increments introduced since the PPP/C Government assumed office in August 2020, benefiting categories like teachers, healthcare workers, and members of the disciplined forces.

One of the key measures includes increasing the income tax threshold from $65,000 to $100,000, a move that has removed 39,000 individuals from the income tax net and boosted disposable income by $9.4 billion annually.

Recently, the administration signed an agreement with the Guyana Teachers Union (GTU) to provide substantial financial resources and support to teachers in 2024, 2025, and 2026.

President Ali reaffirmed the government’s approach to serving its citizens, stating, “We demonstrate our commitment to the people not with noise, but through real action, policy, and meaningful intervention.”
