Speaking on his weekly programme“Issues in the News” on Tuesday evening, Minister Nandlall highlighted what he described as a major boost for Guyana’s biodiversity efforts following recent support at the United Nations level.

According to the attorney general, Guyana’s work in biodiversity conservation and environmental protection is continuing to attract international recognition, including support from countries such as Canada and the United Kingdom.

“Guyana, a small country, continues to make its mark on the global stage in the area of the environment and biodiversity,” the AG stated.

He said Guyana has built a strong international reputation through its low deforestation rates, carbon credit initiatives and sustainable forest management policies.

The senior counsel revealed that the government remains committed to advancing policies that balance economic growth with environmental sustainability.

“And I am proud to be part of a government that continues to be a trailblazer on this extraordinarily important platform of the environment.”

The attorney general also pointed to President Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali’s role in positioning Guyana prominently on regional and international environmental matters.

He praised the president’s leadership on global issues, including climate change, biodiversity protection and sustainable development, while also referencing his diplomatic engagement internationally.

According to him, President Ali’s leadership has helped Guyana gain strong international support on several major issues affecting the country.

The president’s approach has been characterised by diplomacy, calmness and strategic engagement at the regional and international levels.

AG Nandlall said Guyana’s environmental policies continue to set an example globally, particularly as the country maintains one of the world’s highest forest cover percentages while pursuing economic transformation and development. (Department of Public Information)
