We Invest in Nationhood (WIN) Member of Parliament, Deon La Cruz has publicly denied the allegations of domestic violence and assault following his charges and subsequent release on bail.

Thirty-one-year-old La Cruz was arrested and taken into custody at the Acquero Police Station last Wednesday. On Friday, he appeared at the Acquero Magistrate’s Court where two charges were read to him. He was released on $125,000 bail. The matter was adjourned to July 7.

A police report has revealed details of the alleged domestic violence incident that took place on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, around 5:00 PM at Moruca, in the North West District, Region #1, at the couple’s residence. According to the police, LaCruz and his reputed wife were involved in a physical altercation that started as an argument. During the incident, LaCruz allegedly assaulted their four-year-old child. His wife intervened to protect the child, and LaCruz then assaulted his wife, dealing her several blows and pushing her to the ground. She reportedly hit her head during the process and lost consciousness. Following the assault, LaCruz armed himself with a chopper and reportedly threatened his wife.
The victim reported the incident to the Acquero Police Station and was subsequently taken for medical treatment.

Following his release, MP LaCruz and his wife publicly refuted the official account of the domestic violence allegations made against him. He clarified that his wife did not file any report concerning such allegations. LaCruz expressed the belief that the report was made by an unidentified individual, suggesting that the motive behind the report may be politically motivated and driven by personal issues.

The MP firmly denied that any physical violence occurred involving his partner or their child. He stated that there was no abuse or child abuse, asserting that there is no evidence to support the claims. LaCruz emphasized that no witnesses were present during the incident and questioned how the matter became public knowledge.

Regarding media reports that his reputed wife bore marks of violence, LaCruz denied the presence of any physical trauma. While acknowledging that police escorted her to seek medical attention, he maintained that the claims of visible injuries are untrue. He also indicated that he has requested copies of the medical report and official statements from law enforcement, but these have not yet been provided.

Initially, the We Invest in Nationhood (WIN) Party had issued a statement regarding LaCruz’s detention in connection with allegations of domestic violence. WIN emphasized that it considers all allegations of violence, especially those involving women and children, with the utmost seriousness. The party said it strongly condemns all forms of domestic violence and had called for a thorough, impartial, and professional investigation by the Guyana Police Force. The party reaffirmed its belief that violence against women and children is unacceptable under any circumstances. They noted that public office is a position of trust that requires individuals to uphold the law and demonstrate respect for the dignity and safety of others. The party stated that should the allegations be substantiated, it will take appropriate action in line with its principles and commitment to accountability.
WIN concluded by reaffirming its stance in favor of justice, victim protection, and the rule of law, emphasizing that it maintains a zero-tolerance policy for domestic and all other forms of violence
