The Guyana Police Force is investigating a fatal accident which occurred on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at about 17:00 hours, on Providence Public Road, East Bank Demerara.
The accident involved a minibus, BAH 9443, driven by a 31-year-old male of Kitty, Georgetown; motor lorry GAF 1093, driven by a 55-year-old male of La Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara and motor car, PJJ 1664, driven by a 28-year-old male of Diamond, East Bank Demerara.
Initial enquiries revealed that the minibus was proceeding north along the eastern driving lane of the western carriageway of Providence Public Road, while the motor lorry was proceeding north along the western driving lane of the said carriageway. It is alleged that the motor lorry made a sharp right turn and entered the path of the minibus, resulting in the minibus colliding with the right side of the motor lorry.
The minibus subsequently collided with the median, entered the eastern carriageway, toppled onto its right side and collided with the motor car, which was proceeding south along the eastern driving lane of the eastern carriageway.
As a result of the accident, the driver of the motor car and his 23-year-old female occupant of Friendship, East Bank Demerara, sustained minor injuries, while the driver of the minibus and seven passengers sustained injuries about their bodies. Emergency Medical Technicians were summoned, and Ruddy Raymond, a 36-year-old male of Lima, Essequibo Coast, was examined by a doctor on duty and pronounced dead at the scene.
The body was escorted to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.
The driver of the minibus and six surviving passengers were conveyed to the Diamond Regional Hospital, where they received medical treatment.
Two breathalyzer tests were conducted on the driver of the motor lorry, which returned readings of 0.003% and 0.004%.
The driver of the motor lorry is presently in police custody assisting with investigations.
Investigations are ongoing.
