The Alliance for Change (AFC) has not ruled out the possibility of a joinder with other political parties contesting the upcoming Regional and General Elections come September 1, 2025. Making this disclosure today was Party Chairman, David Patterson, a former Public Infrastructure Minister.
“We are looking at all possibilities, all avenues to depose the PPP, and if our analysis says that is a viable route, we will take it. So, yes,” the official said.
A joinder refers to a coalition or alliance of smaller political parties that come together to contest an election as a combined list, rather than individually. This is typically done to pool votes, increase their chances of gaining seats, and avoid splitting the vote among like-minded parties.
Patterson added that the party is in talks with other political forces and that these deliberations will continue until a decision is made. Interestingly, if a combined list secures only one parliamentary seat, that seat will automatically be awarded to the party within the joinder that garnered the largest number of votes.
Regarding a Prime Ministerial Candidate, Patterson said that the party is still in consultations. The announcement will be made when all of its members are back from the fields. The party’s manifesto, he said, will also be launched at the same time.
Asked if not naming a PM candidate makes the party look unprepared, Patterson replied, “I can tell you it’s not me! But we have no worry at all about appearing unprepared or so forth. We have a comprehensive approach. So yes, we are working with our program and it’s working well so far.”
