Detectives moments ago made a major breakthrough in the Stabroek Market multimillion-dollar heist with the arrest of the alleged mastermind.
Albert De Freitas aka Ulrick was arrested around 20:30 hrs at the office of prominent lawyer, Nigel Hughes.
Freitas was escorted to the the Criminal Investgation Department by ranks from the Guyana Police Force (GPF)’s Major Crimes Unit.
He is said to be the alleged mastermind in monday night’s robbery at L. Seepersaud Maraj and Sons jewellery. $90M in gold and diamond jewellery is estimated to have been stolen.
The police have arrested six other persons and they are assisting with the investigation. In 2009, De Freitas was charged with two counts of attempted murder and two counts of discharging a loaded firearm.
Nigel Hughes represented him and he was granted bail in the sum of $300,000.
