A gunman reportedly walked up to a 39-year-old woman this morning, out a gun, and shot her to the right leg. The shooter was accompanied by another man. They fled the scene immediately after the shooting and made no attempt to rob the woman.

The incident happened around 09:10 hrs at the junction of ‘B’ Field Sophia in full view of about a dozen stunned onlookers. The suspects did not conceal their identities.

The victim has been identified as Stacy Ann Robinson of Lot 315 ‘B’ Field Sophia. She was treated at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation and discharged.

According to information received, the victim was standing at the junction, waiting on a minibus to go home when the suspects approached her.

Robbery has been ruled out as the motive for the shooting and investigators have thus far received the names of two persons, who they believe shot the woman but they have not been located as yet. The suspects were identified by eyewitnesses.

Guyana Standard has been informed that the woman claimed that she has no idea of anyone who might want to harm her.

Initially, ranks were focusing their attention on possible bitter ex-lovers but the victim claimed to have none.

The investigation is ongoing.
