A 21-year-old mason died around 22:50 hrs last night after he was severely beaten by two brothers at Lot 7 West Watooka, Wismar, Linden for spilling alcohol on one of the siblings.

The deceased has been identified as Leonard Peters called “Lenny” of Lot 29 West Watooka. Peters was beaten with two pieces of wood and stabbed once. He died while receiving treatment at the Linden Hospital.

The suspects have since been identified as 23-year-old Michael Gibert Emanuel called “Giddie” and Eli Phillip Emanuel, 19, called “Gaza” both of Lot 7 Watooka. They have been arrested.

According to information received, the mason and the 19-year-old suspect were at the home of a mutual friend socializing and imbibing when the deceased mistakenly caused some alcohol to spill from his glass on the teenager.

This reportedly resulted in an argument between the deceased and the suspect which quickly escalated into a fight. The young suspect allegedly managed to run away from the deceased.

The Guyana Standard has been informed that the 19-year-old suspect ran home and while informing his mother about what had transpired, the deceased ran into his yard and immediately tried to attack the teen with a piece of wood.

The teen’s older brother, Michael Gilbert Emanuel, tried to intervene but the deceased became annoyed and started hitting both siblings. The older brother managed to grab a piece of wood and struck the deceased to the head.

A police source said that eyewitnesses claimed that after the deceased received the first blow to the head, he dropped his wood and ran out of the siblings’ yard and collapsed on the roadway.

The 23-year-old mason was rushed to the hospital where he subsequently succumbed.

According to information received, the deceased was also stabbed. It is unclear which sibling inflicted that wound.

The brothers are assisting with the investigation.
