After calling numerous witnesses in the Preliminary Inquiry (PI) into the murder of Bourda market cheese vendor, Troy Ramalho, who was shot and killed while plying his trade, Police Prosecutor Neville Jeffers today closed the case for the state.

Akeem Morris, 26, a miner, of 40 Sandy Babb Street, Kitty; George Paton, 34, a taxi driver of 177 BB Eccles, East Bank Demerara; and Royce Sandiford, a 33-year-old labourer were not required to plead to the charge which stated that on August 15, 2018 at Robb Street, Bourda, Lacytown, they murdered Ramalho during the course of a robbery.

They are currently on remand for the offence.

When the matter was called in the courtroom of Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan today, the final witness was called to the stand to detail the role she played in the investigation.

The lawyers representing the defendants are expected to make submissions on April 15, 2019.

The Prosecution is expected to make their submission before the Magistrate rules on whether there is enough evidence to commit the men for trial at the High Court in Demerara.

According to information, Ramalho was sitting on a bench at his business place and had just finished selling a customer when three men walked up to him. He was then shot.

Ramalho was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
