A labourer was this afternoon charged and remanded to prison on a narcotics trafficking charge.

Dennis Nunes, 30, of 34 Durban Street, Georgetown, appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.

The charge against Nunes stated that on June 7, 2019, at Durban Street, Georgetown, he had in his possession 3.605 kilograms of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.

The unrepresented man pleaded not guilty to the charge after it was read to him.

Facts presented by Police Prosecutor Adduni Inniss stated that on the day in question, police acting on information went to the defendant’s home where they requested to conduct a search.

While searching the bedroom, an officer found leaves, seeds, and stems suspected to be marijuana in a barrel.

Nunes was then told of the offence to which he denied ownership of the drugs. He was then arrested and taken to the station where he was charged with the offence.

The magistrate, after listening to the facts, remanded Nunes to prison until June 19.
