A 21-year-old was stabbed to the chest last night by a man he had assaulted at a rum shop in Limlair Village. The victim has been identified as Patrick Wilson of Lot 5 Limlair Village, Corentyne, Berbice.

He died around 23:00 hrs after sustaining a single stab wound.

The Guyana Standard has been informed that Wilson was imbibing at a rum shop not far from his home with two relatives when the suspect walked in an accused the three men of “talking” his name.

A fight subsequently erupted between the suspect and one of Wilson’s relatives. This caused the deceased to pick up a wood and deal the suspect several lashes.

According to information received, persons in the rum shop stepped in and chased the men out.

Late last night however, the suspect spotted a highly intoxicated Wilson heading home alone and confronted him.

The young man was stabbed and died almost immediately.

The suspect has since been arrested.
