A New and United Guyana’s (ANUG) candidate, Jonathan Yearwood came under attack this morning by persons gathered outside of the Guyana Elections Commission’s (GECOM) Command Center on Hadfield Street.

The attackers are believed to be supporters of the incumbent APNU+AFC coalition as they were dressed in party colors and jerseys carrying the coalition’s slogans.

Guyana Standard spoke to Yearwood who confirmed that he was attacked. While reports reaching Guyana Standard suggested that he was also chased by the supporters, Yearwood said, “Nobody chases me in Guyana. I left on my own accord.”

Yearwood said, “they threw plastic bottles at me, but I was able to spot when they were about to attack and maneuvered skillfully. I then left on my own accord.”

Yearwood also noted that no physical harm was brought to him.
