The Mayors of Mahdia, David Abram; New Amsterdam, Winifred Heywood; Bartica, Gifford Marshall; and Linden, Weneka Arrindell said that they have been closely monitoring the Regional and National elections process which commenced on March 2nd, 2020, and remain concerned that after 119 days, the people of Guyana have not seen a conclusion of this process.”

The quartet said that they have noted the 10 declarations which were completed in March 2020, and the subsequent National Recount which was initiated.

“It has not escaped our attention that this four (4) step process was completed on June 8th and step one (1) showed a final tally of votes that were subject to verification by the Guyana Election Commission (GECOM). After the completion of this verification, the Chief Elections Officer, Mr. Keith Lowenfield guided by the Section 96 of the People’s Representation Act, Article 177 (2) (b) of the Constitution of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana and the Court of Appeal in Eslyn David v Chief Elections Officer et al, submitted his report on June 16th, 2020. This report which is solidly undergirded by the law, clearly shows that the APNU+AFC coalition won the March 2nd, 2020 elections,” the Mayors said in a joint statement today.

They are calling on Gecom to complete this election process by making a declaration based on Lowenfield’s report.
