PPP’s Commissioner on the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM), Sase Gunraj, informed members of the media moments ago that the declaration for Irfaan Ali to be sworn in as President is on its way to the Chancellor, Justice Yonette Cummings Edwards. Gunraj noted that the Chief Elections Officer (CEO), Keith Lowenfield prepared his report using the correct figures of the national recount which show that the People’s Progressive Party got 33 seats, the APNU+AFC31 and the joined parties one seat. Gunraj noted that it is now up to the Chair of the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) to hold a press conference on the unfolding of events. Gunraj told the media that he is aware the commissioners representing the government, Vincent Alexander, Desmond Trotman and Charles Corbin, distanced themselves from the report presented by Lowenfield. Gunraj said the Commissioners are maintaining that the results of the elections are based on fraudulent votes. He was quick to note however that these have been addressed already by the courts. As for those within the Commission who had a hand to play in undermining democracy for close to five months, Gunraj said that they will be dealt with at the employment level.
