Days after a serving member of the Guyana Police Force (GPF) was stabbed several times about his body while trying to make an arrest; the perpetrator was today charged with the murder of a GECOM security guard.

Twenty-seven-year-old Samuel Allen, known as ‘Sammy,’ appeared at the Port Kaituma Police Station via Zoom before Magistrate Dylon Bess.

He was not required to plead to the charge which stated that on September 5, 2020, at Port Kaituma, North West District, he murdered 75-year-old Earl Peters. Allen was remanded to prison until October 13 for the commencement of the Preliminary Inquiry (PI.)

According to a police release, on September 5, last, at about 10:25 hrs, a businessman who resides at Train Line, Port Kaituma, N.W.D, claimed that he was at home when he heard someone shouting for help.

He immediately went outside to investigate and observed a male, whom he recognized as Earl Peters, lying on the ground soaked with what appeared to be blood. He then ran to the Port Kaituma Police Station and made a report.

At about 22:35hrs, a party of policemen visited the scene and observed the victim lying on his back on the ground in an unconscious state, soaked in what appeared to be blood from injuries to his abdomen, head, and left wrist.

Earl was picked up and rushed to the Port Kaituma Public Hospital, where he briefly regained consciousness and related to the Police that he was attacked. The elderly man later succumbed at the said hospital.

The matter was then reported, and following an investigation, ranks last Monday received information at around 16:40h and went to S1A Junction, One Mile, Port Kaituma, where they confronted Allen.

While Lance Corporal Bertland Scotland was in the process of arresting him, he whipped out a knife and stabbed Scotland to his left hand, left hip, left lower abdomen, left eyebrow, and left buttocks.

The cop was treated at the Port Kaituma District Hospital and later air-dashed to Georgetown; his condition is listed as serious but stable.
