Police are investigating an alleged murder committed on Bibi Ramjit, age 86, a businesswoman of Lot 63 La Grange Old Road, West Bank Demerara, which occurred on Sunday 25th October, 2020 between 15:00hrs and 17:00hrs at the said address by person/s unknown.

Enquiries disclosed that the deceased lived alone in a two storey wooden and concrete structure where the upper flat is used as the living quarters,  while the lower flat houses a grocery shop.

On Sunday last, about 15:00hrs, a 59-year-old farmer of Schoonard, West Bank Demerara, went to  purchase eddoes from Ramjit, who didn’t have change for his $5000 note, so he  collected the eddoes and told the woman that he will drop her money later and went away.

Two hours later, the farmer returned to the shop, where he observed the shop door and the back door to the upper flat wide open.  He called out several times for Ramjit, but got no response. He then proceeded to the upper flat of the house where he looked into a bedroom and saw the deceased lying motionless on her back on a bed with her feet and hands tied.

He immediately raised an alarm and the Police were summoned to the scene. On arrival, the entire scene was processed and the body was checked for any marks of violence but none was seen. Several persons in the area were questioned but no useful information was received.

The body was then escorted to the West Demerara Regional Hospital, where it was pronounced dead by a doctor on duty and further escorted to the Ezekiel Funeral Parlor awaiting a Post Mortem examination. Investigations are ongoing.
