Efforts are being made to arrest a driver who has gone into hiding after causing a pedestrian’s death at Hydronie Public Road, East Bank Essequibo (EBE).

The dead man has been identified as Kayum Alie of Busy Park Squatting Area, East Bank Essequibo.

Police said that the fatal accident occurred on Friday at about 21:55hrs on the Hydronie Public Road, EBE involving a motor car owned by Sheldon Holder of Doctor Charles Scheme, EBD.

Investigations revealed that the motorcar was proceeding south along the eastern carriageway’s western driveway at an alleged fast rate of speed when he collided with the pedestrian who was standing on the median on the center of the road.

As a result, the vehicle turned turtle then collided with a nearby shop situated on the western side of the western carriageway.

Due to the impact of the collision, the pedestrian received injuries to his head and body. The driver then reportedly exited the car and made good his escape on foot.

The pedestrian was then picked by the police and escorted to Leonora Cottage Hospital, where he was seen and examined by a Doctor on duty who pronounced him dead on arrival.

The body is presently at the Ezekiel Funeral Parlor Mortuary awaiting a Post Mortem Examination (PME).

The vehicle was lodged at Leonora Police Station to be examined by a licensing and certifying officer while efforts are being made to arrest the driver. Investigations are ongoing.
