An East Ruimveldt resident was today remanded to prison after he allegedly robbed a Guyana Defence Force (GDF) rank.

33-year-old Melvin Jeanne of East Ruimveldt, Georgetown, appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge, which alleged that on January 21, 2021, at Market Street, East Ruimveldt, he robbed Kaya Dover of his jewellery, documents, and gadgets amounting to $430,000.

The Magistrate remanded Jeanne to prison until February 5, 2021.

Reports are that at about 04:45 hrs, Dover was approached by Jeanne, who asked for some water.

It is alleged that Jeanne whipped out a handgun at Dover’s chest and proceeded to relieve him of his values. The matter was reported, and the accused was arrested.
