Bennedict John, 39, a chainsaw operator of Ituni, Upper Demerara River was charged yesterday for manslaughter committed on Frederick DeSouza on June 30 at BQ Ituni.

The  accused appeared before her Magistrate Wanda Fortune at the Linden Magistrate’s Court and was not required to plea to the indictable charge.

He was placed on $300,000 bail and is required to report to the Ituni Police Station every Monday and Friday until the matter concludes.

The matter was adjourned to August 26.

Fredrick DeSouza, 56, of Ituni Village, was found unconcious infront of a yard with wounds to his head, abdomen and feet.

He was subsequently taken to the Ituni Health Care Centre then to the Linden Hospital Complex, where he later succumbed to his injuries sometime the following morning.
