The Ministry of Education today received over 1000 pieces of furniture from Food for the Poor (Guyana) Inc. (FFTP) to be distributed to schools across Guyana to benefit students and teachers.

In total, 41 bookcases, 762 chairs, 461 student desks, 12 teacher desks, 34 file cabinets, 61 tables and one storage cabinet were handed over yesterday.

Receiving the donation on behalf of the Ministry was Minister of Education Priya Manickchand.

Chief Executive Officer of FFTP, Mr. Kent Vincent said that he looks forward to continued collaboration between the organization and the Ministry of Education to make the lives of both learners and teachers better.

Minister Manickchand expressed similar sentiments and noted that the two entities should highlight priority areas to make the established partnership even more meaningful.

The items will be stored at the Ministry of Education’s Book Distribution Unit (BDU) until such time that they are distributed to the schools that need them most.

Also present at the handing over today was the Coordinator of the Book Distribution Unit, Ms. Darshini Balac and Ms. Jonelle DeViera, FFTP’s Public Relations Officer.
