More than 350 residents of Kwakwani and other villages in Region 10 were able to access medical attention during an outreach last Sunday, hosted by the Central Islamic Organization of Guyana (CIOG) in collaboration with both private and public entities.

The outreach was held at the Kwakwani Empowerment Center and saw support from: ART Sawmilling Enterprise; the Guyana Cancer Foundation; the National AIDS Programme Secretariat; Dauntless Professional Therapeutic Bodyworks; the Region 10 Covid-19 and Vaccination Team and Regional Health Officer; the Kwakwani Hospital medical team and Administrator; Georgetown Public Hospital (GPHC)’s Doctors and Eye Care Team; the Guyana Medical Relief: SEWA International Guyana; Diaspora Axillium; Twins Manufacturing Chemists; Mohamed’s Manufacturing Enterprise (Peppy’s Food); Massy Distribution; TSI Security Services; Jennifer Jobe and Family; and the Kwakwani Empowerment Management Team, Psychiatric and Counseling Services.

The primary purpose of the outreach was to provide medical assistance to the community and surrounding areas in general. The residents were able to have their blood pressure and glucose levels tested, access to mental health care, massage therapy, eye care, screening for breast cancer, access to HIV, STD’s and Syphilis Testing, and Pediatric Care.

The medical team was able to provide assistance to over 350 persons inclusive of children, the elderly, and those living with disabilities.

Along with the medical care provided, the residents were presented with packages that cater for basic daily necessities, inclusive of disinfectant wipes, face masks, clothing, pampers (both children and adults), hair and skincare products, soap, toothpaste, footwear, sustenance and provision of over the counter and prescription medication.

The Kwakwani Hospital was provided with multivitamin tablets along with Dental Equipment and the Kwakwani Empowerment Center was given a donation of six Sewing Machines.

The CIOG said it would like to express thanks to Mr Azim Yunus and ART Sawmilling Enterprises, the RHO office of Region 10 and the Kwakwani community Hospital for their support and cooperation.

It also extended thanks to the collaborating partners, doctors, nurses and volunteers who gave their time and services in making the humanitarian effort a successful one.

“We pray that God Almighty richly rewards all those who were involved and we pray all those who sought medical assistance be blessed with good health,” the CIOG said.
