Rada Panday, 41, of Lot 136, Third Street, Mon Repos North, East Coast Demerara, has died following a car accident. She was reportedly struck down in her village. The driver implicated in the incident which occurred sometime around 23:38hrs on Monday is a 34-year-old civil engineer.

Preliminary investigations reveal that the driver, who has been identified as Randolph Hunte, was proceeding west along the Mon Repos Public Road when his wife, who was seated in the car, alerted him to an impending collision with the pedestrian.

The car reportedly collided with Panday, who fell onto the road’s surface where she received injuries about her body.

Panday was subsequently picked up in an unconscious condition and placed into an ambulance. She was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The motor car was lodged to be examined by a licensing and certifying officer.

A notice of intended prosecution was served on the driver of the motor car. A breath alcohol test confirmed that he was not intoxicated.

He is in police custody assisting with the investigation.
