Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding a fatal accident which occurred on Thursday September 22, 2022 at about 18:20hrs at the intersection of High and Princess Street, Georgetown.

The accident involved minibus, BAB 6045, driven by William Scott, a 30-year-old male of Supply, East Bank Demerara; and 53-year-old pedestrian Veda Prakash Faudar of Lombard Street, Georgetown. Fauder is an overseas-based Guyanese.

The minibus driver told investigators that he was proceeding south along High Street at about 40 to 45 kmph when Fauder and another pedestrian attempted to cross the road.

Fauder was struck down and he received injuries about his body.

The ambulance service was summoned and Doctor Reid from the Georgetown Public Hospital examined the pedestrian and pronounced him dead at the scene.

The accident scene was subsequently visited by Inspector Wickham and a party of police ranks.

Measurements and statements were taken. The accident scene, body and minibus were photographed, and notice of intended prosecution served on the driver.

The body is presently lying at the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home awaiting a post- mortem examination.

Further investigations are ongoing.
