The mentally ill man who murdered a Berbice teen last week has been remanded to prison.

Forty-one-year-old Lester Eion LaFleur was arraigned before Magistrate Rabindranauth Singh at the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court today. It is alleged that on December 21, 2022, at Angoys Avenue, New Amsterdam, Berbice, La Fleur murdered 15-year-old Carlos Leung.

He was not required to plead to the indictable charge. He was remanded to prison until January 25, 2023, for report. The court also heard that during the attack, 26-year-old Carl Singh, also of Angoy’s Avenue, was injured during the alleged ordeal with Leung.

The case against the alleged murderer is that on the day of the incident, he went to Singh’s house and requested to purchase chicken. As Singh approached the gate, detectives said he was subsequently stabbed by La Fluer in his neck and abdomen. The victim was then hauled into a trench by the assailant who sat on him until he was motionless.
