The Demerara Harbour Bridge will be closed for 24 hours starting from 03:00hrs on Sunday, February 26th, 2023 until 03:00hrs on Monday, February 27th, 2023, due to emergency repair works on Span 8. These repair works have become necessary after the Panama-registered oil tanker, MV Tradewind Passion crashed into the bridge last October, causing it to be inoperable for several days.
During the closure, the Demerara Water Taxis Service will remain operational for 24 hours, providing an uninterrupted service from Vreed-en-Hoop to Stabroek. Commuters are reminded to wear life vests while travelling, and the fare for the water taxi service will remain at $100, the Maritime Administration Department has said.
