The body of Yashpaul Thomas, called ‘Ashkay’, a 26-year-old labourer of Lot 440 Hope Lowlands, East Coast Demerara, was found afloat in a canal about 08:30 hrs on Wednesday.
Enquiries disclosed that Thomas was a known alcoholic living with his reputed 39-year-old wife at the above-mentioned address. According to the wife, Thomas left home for work three days ago about 07:15hrs but did not return home on the said day. Checks were made around the area for him, but he was not located.
On Wednesday about 08:20 hrs, the woman went to Cove and John Police Station to lodge a missing person report when she received information that the body of a male was found afloat in a canal at Hope Lowlands.
She went to the said area and identified the deceased’s body as her reputed husband. The body was examined, and no marks of violence were seen. The body was escorted to Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.
