Kaden Bailey, a 24-year-old laborer from Crane, West Coast Demerara, and Saeed Alli, a 25-year-old taxi driver from Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo, were arrested and charged with murder in the course or furtherance of a robbery.

The charges stem from the robbery and murder of security guard Paul Waterman at a Chinese supermarket in Vreed-en-Hoop in March 2024.

Both Bailey and Alli appeared at the Leonora Magistrate Court before Senior Magistrate Zamilla Ally-Seepaul, where they were not required to enter a plea. They were remanded to prison until their next court date on June 10, 2024.

On March 11, at around 15:00hrs, Paul Waterman, a security guard attached to Sheriff Security Service, and the proprietors were held at gun at People Supermarket in Vreed-en-Hoop, West Coast Demerara. They were robbed cash, phone cards, a cellphone, and a DVR. During a scuffle, Waterman was shot, and his firearm and cellphone were stolen. The suspects fled north through Evergreen Street. Waterman was pronounced dead at the West Demerara Regional Hospital.
