Police are investigating a murder committed on Mark Harris, a 25-year-old horsecart operator of Lot 90 Plum Park, Sophia, which occurred about 19:30 hrs last evening. The suspect is a 20-year-old labourer from Plum Park, Sophia.
Detectives visited the scene about 21:30 hrs last night. Enquiries disclosed that the suspect and the victim were known to each other and had an ongoing problem. On the date and time mentioned, the suspect and the victim were both at a shop in Plum Park when an argument ensued.
The victim, who was allegedly armed with a knife, attempted to stab the suspect. The suspect held on to the knife, removed a pair of scissors from his waist and dealt the victim two stabs to his body. The victim then ran away and collapsed at a short distance.
The suspect left the scene and went to the Prashad Nagar Police Outpost, where he reported the incident and handed the scissors to the police. The victim was picked up in an unconscious state and escorted to the GPHC, where a doctor on duty pronounced the victim dead on arrival.
One sliver blade knife without a handle was found on the scene. Several persons in the area were also questioned.
Investigations are ongoing.
