An intelligence-led operation was conducted around 06:45 hrs yesterday, when cops went to Princess Street, between Victor Street and Nelson Mandela Avenue, and contacted Adrian Brandt.

The 44-year-old taxi driver of Lot 9 Norton Street, was at the time sitting in the driver’s seat of motor car PAD 2499.

The ranks approached him, identified themselves, and immediately saw a firearm on his lap. One of the ranks took possession of the firearm (a Smith and Wesson 9mm pistol) along with one magazine (with 15 suspected 9mm ammunition).

Brandt was then asked if he is the holder of a Firearm licence and he said ‘no’. He was then told of the offences committed, cautioned and arrested. The suspect was escorted to the East La Penitence Police Station along with the firearm, ammunition and the motor car.

He was placed into custody pending charges.
