Police in Berbice are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of 58-year-old, Snerace Mackoon of Kilcoy Chesney, who lost his life around 07:45hrs this morning in a vehicular accident at Albion. He was reportedly struck down by motorcar, HB 4053, driven by a 31-year-old Edinburg, East Bank Berbice (EBB) man.

Guyana Standard understands that Mackoon was on a pedal cycle proceeding east along the road, and in the vicinity of Cropper School Street, as he proceeded to cross the road from north to south, he was hit by the motorcar proceeding west.

As a result, the 58-year-old was thrown onto the vehicle’s windshield before being hurled onto the road’s surface, receiving injuries to his head and body. He was subsequently picked up by the driver in an unconscious condition and taken to the Port Mourant Public Hospital, where he was seen and examined by a doctor. Mackoon was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Meanwhile, 35-year-old Linden Smartt, who was a passenger in the motorcar, received injuries above his left eye and was taken to the hospital where he was treated and sent away.

Mackoon’s body is at Ramoo’s Funeral Parlour awaiting a post-mortem examination.

A breathalyzer test conducted on the driver revealed that he was not under the influence of alcohol.

Police have so far reviewed CCTV footage of the accident and further enquiries are ongoing.
