A Colombian National who told the court that he was suffering from colon cancer, and that he is a destitute,  was this afternoon sentenced to three months imprisonment after pleading guilty to an illegal entry charge.

Aziel Sanchez, 48, was arraigned before Senior Magistrate Fabayo Azore in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.

He pleaded guilty to the charge which alleged that on September 30, 2018 at Lethem, he entered Guyana by crossing a land frontier and failed to present himself to an immigration officer.

With the aid of an interpreter, Sanchez told the court that he is suffering from colon cancer and is in desperate need of medical attention and that is why he came to Guyana.

Facts presented by the court Prosecutor stated that Sanchez came to Guyana illegally and was hiding out in Lethem in a clump of bushes.

Police carried out a search and he was arrested and taken into custody.

The Magistrate, after listening to the Prosecutor’s facts, sentenced Sanchez to three months imprisonment.

On completion of serving the time, he will be taken to the nearest port of exit and deported back to his homeland.
