Guyana will play host to its second major international event in the athletics arena in September when the Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG) will look to successfully pull off the ninth edition of the Biennial South American U-23 Championship over two days at the National Track and Field Centre, Leonora, West Coast Demerara.

The Championships will run off on September 26 and 27 and the host Guyana has a medal tally of three (One Gold, One Silver and A Bronze). Guyana who successfully hosted the South American Championships (U20) in 2017 was rewarded in 2018 with the right to host the SA U-23 Championship.

This year’s hosting of the SA U-23 Championships will follow the 50th edition of the CARIFTA Games in Easter which will be held at the same venue. The AAG will be keen to run off the Games smoothly and will view it as a measuring stick in the lead up to the South American U23 Championship.
