One day after a farmer was charged for murdering the owner of the Sunsplash Hotel and his workman, whose bodies were in an advanced state of decomposition, a teenager was today charged for the same crime.

The 16-year-old appeared in the Children’s Court at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts before Magistrate Annette Singh.

The teen was not required to plead to the indictable charge which stated that between December 19, 2019 and December 27, 2019 at Sunsplash Hotel, Upper Corentyne, he murdered Vivekanand Brijbassi, called “Veka”, and his workman Harry Persaud Prashad.

He was remanded to prison until February 12, 2020 when he will appear in the #51 Magistrate’s Court.

According to information, the men were found by a friend who ventured to the hotel located near the Number 63 Beach. It was reported that the men’s bodies were found in the upper flat tied up, decomposed and dismembered.

The hotel owner, who was a Canadian citizen, had returned to Guyana in early December. He was staying at his hotel with the worker who was employed as a watchman when Brijbassi was overseas.

Autopsies conducted on the bodies by Government Pathologist, Nehaul Singh, revealed that they were in an advanced state of decomposition and they died from shock and haemorrhage due to multiple injuries.

Forty-six-year-old Alvin Druean was yesterday charged and remanded for the same crime after he appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
