Questions submitted by the Opposition to the National Assembly relating to the scheduled visit of United States Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, to Guyana have been denied by the House Speaker, Manzoor Nadir.

The speaker denied the “Oral questions without notice”, which was activated by the Leader of the Opposition, Joseph Harmon yesterday.

That inquiry over Pompeo’s visit was made by Opposition Member of Parliament (MP) Amanza Walton-Desir, while another on the same subject was raised again today by Opposition MP, Christopher Jones.

The speaker disallowed those queries; saying that while the questions were indeed important, they were not urgent.

The U.S. Government official is expected in Guyana tomorrow.

Pompeo would have been on the forefront during Guyana’s five-month political impasse, calling for restoration of democracy.

It was Pompeo who announced visa restrictions on several Coalition officials. News of his visit has indeed caused some raised eyebrows.
