A security guard who is charged with the murder of his brother was in tears today as he was remanded for the capital offense.

27-year-old Quincy Chase, a security guard of Lot 34 Norton Street, Werk-en-rust, Georgetown, was today remanded by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan after he was charged with the murder of Paul Chase, 24.

The charge states that on June 25, he murdered Paul Chase at Cummings Street, Georgetown.

The man cried before the Magistrate while she was reading the charge which he was not required to plead. He was remanded until July 22.

Guyana Standard understands that the murder accused and his brother were involved in a misunderstanding moments before he was murdered.

According to the accused’s mother, her sons were fighting and she confronted Chase about wrongdoing but he denied it. She also alleged that he cuffed her after becoming upset that she had called her husband who told her to summon the police.

Moments after, shouts of murder were heard. The woman said that her elder son had a knife in his hand and the police were summoned. The man was arrested while the body of the deceased was taken to the Lyken Funeral home.
