Police in Regional Division 4B are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 43-year-old man who allegedly met his demise in a freak accident on Thursday at Falcon Drive, Industrial Site, Eccles, East Bank Demerara (EBD).

According to a police report, Troy Anthony Ponton of 1939, 14th Ave Diamond Housing Scheme, EBD, was riding his pedal cycle, in the company of his friend Brenton Rodney, when they rode onto the pavement which had unfinished work and several steel rods protruding from the culvert at the second cross corner of the road.

Rodney told the investigating rank that he heard an impact, stopped his cycle and called out to his friend but he was not seen nor did he get a response. He turned back to investigate and there he observed the victim in an upright position with his head resting on the steel rods which was protruding from his nose.

The ambulance service was summoned, the body was examined and his death was pronounced by a doctor at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).

Mr. Brenton Rodney is assisting with investigations.
