GAICO Construction recently informed members of the media that dredging of the Pomeroon River Mouth will recommence by October 5,2023. Last year dredging had commenced and a substantial amount of work was done using excavators on barge up to the Waini River Mouth.

Due to the shallow draft that was there prior to GAICO commencing works, the Hopper Dredge was unable to be used on this project. As a consequence, the company said it had to change its dredging strategy to utilize a Cutter Head Dredge which can operate in a very shallow draft environment. GAICO said this Cutter Head Dredge was on a major job and will be demobilized from that assignment this week and mobilized to Pomeroon immediately thereafter.
